Sonexos’ Plasmapanel® Airflow Platform™, Combined with Iberacústica’s Industrial Silencer Expertise, Targets Low-frequency Noise in Ventilation, HVAC, Power Generation, Compressor and Process-Industry Applications.
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND / MADRID, SPAIN— 14 May 2026 — Sonexos SA, a Swiss technology company developing solid-state, plasma-based active sound control solutions, today announced a strategic collaboration with Ingeniería y Servicios en Acústica Iberacústica, S.L. (“Iberacústica”), a Spanish industrial acoustic engineering firm with more than 25 years of experience in noise and vibration control. The collaboration will support the development and preparation for commercialization of Plasmapanel-enabled Active Silencer solutions for the industrial noise-control market.
The collaboration extends Sonexos’ industrial active silencing programme by combining the company’s Plasmapanel Airflow Platform with Iberacústica’s established expertise in industrial silencer design, manufacturing, deployment and customer applications. Together, the parties aim to address low-frequency noise challenges in ventilation, HVAC, power generation, compressor installations, process plants and manufacturing environments, while reducing reliance on large passive structures and preserving straightforward integration into existing industrial layouts.
Industrial noise remains a major operational, regulatory and environmental challenge. Demand for industrial noise-control systems continues to be driven by occupational health requirements, environmental noise regulation, industrial expansion and the need to limit noise exposure across manufacturing, power generation, HVAC, compressor and process-plant environments. Industry research indicates a multi-billion-dollar global market for industrial noise-control solutions, with continued growth expected over the coming decade.
Low-frequency noise remains a particular challenge. Conventional passive silencers, absorbers and barriers are effective at mid and high frequencies, but below approximately 300 Hz they typically require large, heavy and costly structures. This creates practical limits in applications where space, airflow, pressure drop, installation complexity and structural load are critical constraints.
Sonexos’ Plasmapanel Airflow Platform™, built on the company’s patented Plasmacoustic Metalayer™ technology, is designed to address this gap. The platform delivers an AI-enabled, digitally-controlled target acoustic impedance to absorb sound energy across a broad low-frequency range. Unlike conventional loudspeaker-based active noise-control systems — which rely on moving parts and are typically constrained to narrow-band operation — the Plasmapanel Airflow Platform is engineered for integration into ducts, silencers, enclosures and other airflow-driven acoustic environments.
The Plasmapanel Airflow Platform has demonstrated substantial active noise reduction across low-frequency bands extending up to 1,500 Hz, including the range in which passive solutions become progressively larger, heavier and less practical. Its thin, solid-state architecture is designed to integrate within standard duct and silencer structures without materially disrupting airflow paths or requiring fundamental changes to mechanical layouts. The result is a pathway to smaller, lighter and more intelligent silencer systems that combine established passive acoustic engineering with active low-frequency noise control.
Our Plasmapanel platform makes active sound absorption possible in a compact, solid-state form factor — something the physics of passive silencers cannot deliver at low frequencies. Iberacústica brings the engineering depth and customer access to turn that capability into deployed systems, not just demonstrations.
said Mark Donaldson, Founder and CEO of Sonexos SA.
Sonexos and Iberacústica will initially deploy first-generation Active Silencer demonstrators based on the Sonexos Gen-I Plasmapanel Airflow Platform, enabling customers to evaluate low-frequency active noise reduction in practical duct and silencer environments. Development of next-generation commercial Active Silencer products will be based on the Sonexos Gen-II platform, which delivers reduced weight and lower power consumption relative to Gen-I.
Our customers are increasingly asking for effective low-frequency noise solutions that do not carry the penalties of very large passive silencers. Space, installation complexity, pressure drop and cost are all critical constraints in industrial projects. Sonexos’ Plasmapanel platform offers a new approach: active, compact and targeted precisely at the frequency range where conventional systems are most constrained. We are pleased to work with Sonexos to bring this capability to industrial customers.
said Antonio Pérez García, Product Development Manager at Iberacústica.
First-generation Plasmapanel-enabled Active Silencer demonstrators are expected to be available for customer evaluation in the coming months. Initial target applications include industrial ventilation and HVAC systems, power generation and compressor installations, process plant environments, manufacturing facilities and other industrial systems where low-frequency noise, space constraints and airflow performance are critical.
Sonexos expects to present a Plasmapanel-enabled Active Silencer prototype demonstrator at K-TEC, STMicroelectronics’ technology showcase in Seoul, South Korea, on 15 May 2026. The event is expected to provide an early opportunity for STMicroelectronics’ industrial customers and ecosystem partners to experience the Plasmapanel technology first-hand. Sonexos was recently selected for the ST for Startups program, supporting the company’s path toward industrialization of its Plasmacoustic platform.
